Zamak magnesium die casting is a manufacturing process and die casting services in which molten aluminum is forced into a mold cavity under high pressure.

This die casting services is widely used for producing aluminum parts and components with complex shapes and intricate details. The die casting process offers many advantages, such as high production rates, excellent dimensional accuracy, and good surface finish.

 

Here is an overview of the aluminum die casting manufacturing and die casting services process:

  •  Die preparation: The first step in aluminum die casting is to prepare the steel dies, which consist of two halves (the ejector die and the cover die). These halves are designed to create a cavity that resembles the desired part shape. The dies are typically coated with a release agent to help the cast part separate from the mold easily.
  • Melting and degassing: Aluminum is heated in a furnace until it reaches its melting point (around 660°C or 1220°F). During the melting process, impurities and gases must be removed from the molten metal to ensure a high-quality casting. This is typically achieved through a degassing process using a rotary impeller or similar equipment.
  • Injection: The molten aluminum is then transferred from the furnace to a shot chamber in the die casting machine. A plunger or piston pushes the molten metal into the die cavity through a runner system under high pressure (between 1,000 and 20,000 psi, depending on the part complexity and material properties).
  • Cooling and solidification: Once the molten aluminum fills the die cavity, it starts to cool and solidify. The cooling time depends on the part's size, thickness, and complexity. During this stage, the aluminum takes the shape of the cavity, forming the desired part.
  • Ejection: After the aluminum has solidified, the die halves are separated, and the casting is ejected from the mold using ejector pins. The ejector die half typically contains these pins that push the solidified part out of the mold.
  • Trimming and finishing: Excess material, such as flash, runners, and gate, must be removed from the cast part. This is usually done using a trimming press or manual cutting tools. Additional finishing processes, such as polishing, deburring, or surface treatment (e.g., anodizing, painting, or powder coating), may be required to achieve the desired final appearance and properties.
  • Quality control and inspection: The cast parts are inspected for defects, such as porosity, dimensional accuracy, and surface finish. Non-destructive testing methods, such as x-ray, ultrasonic testing, or dye penetrant inspection, may be used to ensure part quality.
  • Post-processing: If necessary, secondary operations like machining, assembly, or heat treatment can be performed to achieve the required specifications and tolerances.

Aluminum die casting is an efficient and cost-effective method for producing high volumes of complex aluminum parts. Some common applications include automotive components, aerospace parts, consumer electronics, and household appliances.
